THE CHRIST CHILD

on Maria-Theresien-Straße

In Innsbruck, it is the ‘Christkindl’ – the Christ Child – that visits, not Father Christmas.Keeping up traditions is very important here. So, every year on a Sunday before Christmas, a Christkindl procession takes place. Accompanied by shepherds, angels, sheep and more than 500 children, the Christ Child makes his way through Maria-Theresien-Strasse to the Landestheater in his magnificent carriage. On the square in front of the State Theatre, everybody joins in singing “Silent Night”.
