St. Nicholas & "Krampus" devils
St. Nicholas will visit Innsbruck three times. During these processions he will be accompanied by angels and the dreaded, but in fact riskless, "Krapmus" devils.
Wed 3 Dec. 2014 at 6.30 pm The Krampus of East Tyrol in front of the Ottoburg restaurant in the Old Town
These devilish Krampus figures sweep through the market sporting animal skins and terrifying masks. In Innsbruck, this event does not get out of hand and is safe.
Thurs 4 Dec. 2014 from 2 pm - 5 pm St. Nicholas Parade at Marktplatz
St. Nicholas hands out small gifts to all the children, accompanied by Christmas angels.
Thurs 4 Dec. 2014 from 5 pm - 6 pm Innsbruck’s St. Nicholas Parade
Accompanied by a host of angels, St. Nicholas walks from St. Nikolaus church to the Cathedral Square (Domplatz), talking to children along the way.
Fri 5 Dec. 2014 at 4.30 pm St. Nicholas Parade on the Hungerburg
St. Nicholas takes the Hungerburg funicular from the Congress Centre up to the Hungerburg and gives Santa sacks to the children there. Followed by a “Krampus” devils’ run.
Sat 6 Dec. 2014 at 6 pm "Perchten” Devils" Run in the Old Town
Cumbersomely, the mystical figures struggle forwards in their heavy costumes. But they push on relentlessly, beating drums, sounding goat horns and doing a “witching” dance. An unforgettable highlight.
